Century Woods

When architect Cliff May was designing Century Woods in the early 1980’s he derived this inspiration from the Golden Age of California architecture.

He envisioned homeowners living in a park like setting providing privacy and luxury. On just over 7 acres this wooded retreat has 4 buildings with 12 units in each. All are single level condominiums and provide owners with spacious homes ranging from 2,600 up to 5,100 sq. ft.

To understand Cliff May and his designs, one must first understand the origins of the ranch house. The original California ranch house began when the Spaniards inhabited the state. Their homes were unique to the area in their methods of construction. In order to properly support the heavy roof, the adobe walls had to be at least three feet wide and because the house had no foundation, it had to be close to the ground, therefore restricting its height. Low roofs allowed for a deep overhang which would protect the adobe walls from rain and keep out the hot summer sun.

May continued the_hacienda style when building Century Woods, with Moorish style tiles, hand wrought iron gates and heavy wood front doors. He also built 32 private Villas in Century Woods which include private court yards, gardens, motor courts, ample outdoor space and private garages. These free standing villas have up to 5,600 sq. ft. With an additional 10 free standing homes soon to be completed, Century Woods offers the only single family homes in Century City.
The community amenities include an indoor/outdoor pool tennis court, clubhouse and gyms and 24 hour security.
